A learning consultant helps schools and businesses design curriculum and training programs that improve performance for students and employees. The process begins by finding the root cause for a performance gap using a deep dive learning needs analysis. Once the gap (or gaps) have been identified, the consultant collaborates with the stakeholder to develop the best learning solution (sometimes multiple solutions).
Using the 70:20:10 learning model (shown below), learning consultants may or may not recommend a formal training solution. More often, learning happens best through on-the-job experiences and challenges or interactions with peers, mentors, and coaches. But when it's clear formal training is needed, that's where the learning consultant can help most.
Once a formal training solution is is place, it's critical the learning consultant evaluate that the solution is effective, and modifications are made, if needed. Evaluation takes place on five levels (shown below).
